Fetal Treatment Evaluations at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital

Welcome to The Fetal Treatment Center, a vibrant part of UCSF’s Medical Center and Benioff Children’s Hospitals (BCH). The Fetal Treatment Center is proud of its 40-year legacy in fetal evaluation and treatment. Since its founding in 1981, the center has expanded its vision to incorporate dynamic new methods for diagnosis and treatment based on the emerging fields of maternal-fetal genetics and precision medicine. Our staff is here to help you through this challenging time and will do all we can to assist you and your family. We have clinic locations in San Francisco and Oakland.

If it is determined by the team an evaluation is recommended, please review these steps prior to coming to your visit with us.

Your evaluation at the Fetal Treatment Center may involve several different imaging and consultations with our team members. These may include an ultrasound, fetal echocardiogram, and/or MRI. Please note that each condition requires different tests to fully evaluate the pregnancy. Additional genetic testing may be necessary before or during your evaluation.

What will we need prior to scheduling an appointment?

Have your obstetric records sent to the Fetal Treatment Center. This often requires that you sign a written release of medical records to both your specialist and regular obstetrician. Release forms can be obtained from you doctor’s office. Our fetal coordinators will contact you or your referring provide for more information and to coordinate your visit with us.

Due date for the pregnancy

Summary of the pregnancy condition for which you are seeking evaluation

A copy of your insurance card (front and back)

Multidisciplinary Consultations

Many patients have problems that require the expertise of numerous members of the Fetal Treatment Center team. We will tailor your evaluation day based on your specific situation and the needs of your pregnancy. Once you become a patient of the Fetal Treatment Center, we will discuss your plan of care during our weekly team meeting attended by multiple specialists. This multidisciplinary approach is what sets us apart from many other centers of fetal care.
