Biography

Dr. Marisa Gardner is a pediatric neurologist who cares for children with all forms of neurological disease. She has special interests in neurology of newborns and epilepsy. She has additional training in interpreting electroencephalograms, tests that record the brain's electrical activity. She cares for young patients from birth through age 21.

Gardner directs the Neonatal Neurologic Care Program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. She also consults on cases in which there is concern about a neurological condition in the fetus.

Gardner collaborates on several research projects related to diagnosing, treating and preventing seizures in newborns.

Gardner earned her medical degree at UCSF, where she also completed a residency in pediatrics, followed by fellowships in pediatric neurology and epilepsy. She belongs to the Child Neurology Society and American Epilepsy Society.

In her free time, Gardner loves to play the piano, dance and spend time with her kids.
